The Ministry of Environment to regulate recycling in the Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO. The Ministry of Environment is working on developing a standard to regulate the activity of recycling in the country, so it meets international standards.

The new regulations will be ready in about 30 days and, among other things, creates a waste recovery network at source instead of at the disposal site.

Scrap Avalanche in China Means No More Scouring Globe

China will throw out more than 15 million appliances, 5 million personal computers and 100 million mobile phones next year as growing consumption at home means recyclers can rely less on scrap imports.

This “avalanche of homegrown trash” will increase domestic scrap supplies and spur recycling on an unprecedented scale in the next decade, according to Wang Jiwei, secretary general at the recycling division of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association.

Varieties of PET Flakes: Hot, Cold, and Unwashed

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a polyethylene thermoplastic made from petroleum. This is usually used in the production of plastic bottles. PET bottles go through treatment process and PET Flakes are produced as a result. The treatment process includes crushing, washing, separating and drying. PET Flakes are used as an alternative raw material to polyester. The raw material is used in producing a range of products.

PET has several advantages such as (a) non-toxic (b) low water absorption (c) organic solvents (d) weather resistance (e) resistance to weak acids (f) anti-chemical stability (g) little affected by temperature etc.
